ANZAP FOUNDERS
PHIL DAY
A published artist, Phil has released works in various disciplines as a poet, author, illustrator and editor.
In addition to these talents, Phil is also a former Galaga World Record holder (2009-2011, Twin Galaxies) and writes articles on classic arcade games and their competitors, which have appeared in various journals, including The Guardian. Phil has recently expanded his repertoire to include live commentary for classic arcade game tournaments, such as Australian Kong Off IV.
Being a former Galaga world record holder, Phil recognises the work and discipline required to achieve this kind of goal, and for this very reason was one of the driving forces behind the formation of ANZAP.
TANYA LOWE
Tanya has been involved with the Brisbane Pinball + Arcade scene in different functions for many years, and is not only an experienced Pinball Player but is also one of the highest ranked women’s Donkey Kong players in the World (Source: DKF).
Tanya was instrumental in the formation of the Brisbane chapter of the Belles & Chimes Womens Pinball league in Australia, and in addition to her accolades boasts an impressive collection of Pinballs, in addition, her Original TKG-4-UP Donkey Kong and Custom “Pauline” Donkey Kong cabinets are among her most treasured in her private collection.
JIMMY NAILS
Jimmy Nails has been an instrumental, driving force in founding both ANZAP and BPAC (the Brisbane Pinball and Arcade Collective), and continues to serve as a committee member in both organisations despite his many other responsibilities.
Jimmy was drawn to Pinball from an early age through family, and had years of experience in running Pinball competitions prior to taking the leap of faith to open the Netherworld back in 2017, as a co-owner with friend Ben Jungles.
Netherworld has since served as a catalyst, growing the thriving grassroots community of Pinball + Arcade enthusiasts in Brisbane – In no small part thanks to Jimmy’s tireless efforts in organising a seemingly endless list of amazing events, competitions, tournaments and regular Pinball streams on Twitch.
Netherworld continues to grow and thrive under the focus of not only Jimmy, but his partner Beck, friend and Netherworld co-owner Ben, their dedicated staff and the many Netherworld denizens at its very heart.
